Voter registration event planned by Montclair’s League of Women Voters on Oct. 9 in Montclair. Individuals can register to vote from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Toni’s Kitchen, 73 S. Fullerton Ave.

Zufall Health, a nonprofit located in West Orange that provides primary care to low-income N.J. residents, expands treatment for alcohol and opioid use disorders. The expanded treatment uses medications to normalize brain chemistry to block the euphoric effects of alcohol and opioids and lessen its cravings. It is offered in combination with counseling and behavioral health support.

Free ancestry-tracing workshop planned by East Orange library on Oct. 9. Attendees will research family history through genealogical record and draft a family tree from 6-7:30 p.m. Registration is required. The workshop is open to non-library cardholders.

Newark plans to apply for a federally funded grant that would identify and remove affordable housing barriers, including outdated zoning and land use policies, gaps in available resources, and insufficient infrastructure. Funds should be used for developing improved housing, policy plans, and affordable housing. A public hearing discussing the application is planned for Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. in Newark City Hall. A 15-day public comment period ends Oct. 14.

REGIONAL NEWS
New Jersey is represented by three women in U.S. Congress for the first time in history, according to the Center for American Women and Politics. The state’s 10th, 11th, and 12th Districts are represented by LaMonica McIver, Mikie Sherrill, and Bonnie Watson Coleman. McIver, who represents parts of Essex, Hudson, and Union Counties, is the first Black woman to represent the 10th District and the second to represent the state. She was elected during a special election cycle this fall, and will fill the congressional seat until Nov. 5.
