Ann Goldstein, translator of Elena Ferrante’s novels, will receive the 2024 Maplewood Literary Award on Sep. 25. Goldstein grew up in Maplewood. The award ceremony will include a talk with Pamela Erens at 7:30 p.m. in the Woodland Great Hall, 60 Woodland Rd. The event is free.

Pop-up story time planned by South Orange library on Sep. 25 at the South Orange farmers market. There will be a story time at 4 p.m. at Spiotta Park.

Isaiah House, a nonprofit that supports unhoused families, plans a fundraising event on Sep. 25 in Springfield. There will be fine dining, wines, and a 50/50 raffle from 6-9 p.m. at Sofia’s Fine Italian Cuisine Restaurant, 272 Morris Ave. Tickets are available online for purchase. Proceeds will go towards Isaiah House.

Reported COVID cases in Essex County have jumped from 26 to 195 amid a nationwide surge in COVID transmission, according to state data from Aug. 10 and Sep. 7. The current active strains are subvariants of Omicron, known as FLiRT. Symptoms include sore throat, cough, fatigue, muscle aches, and congestion among others. Vaccines have been reformulated to target current strains and are available at most CVS and Walgreens locations. Individuals can lower the risk of transmission by wearing face masks and staying home when sick.

Individuals can attend a webinar on Sep. 24 discussing updates to the NJ FamilyCare 1115 Waiver, which provides Medicaid coverage to disabled people who may not be eligible for traditional Medicaid. The webinar begins at 7 p.m. It will discuss changes to the 1115 Waiver, when those changes will be made, and how it will affect individuals.
