Community meeting discussing Maplewood’s movie theater redevelopment plan is scheduled for Sep. 24. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at The Great Hall at the Woodland, 60 Woodland Rd. Community members will share feedback on the plan which will inform its final draft. The current plan draft is available online for review.

Maplewood Township
Essex County residents can register for English for Speakers of Other Languages online classes on Sep. 26 at Maplewood library. Registration is from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the library’s Hilton Branch. Registration is also from 1-3 p.m. at 90 Broad St. in Bloomfield on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Beginner and intermediate classes are from October to December. Students must show two forms of ID and a Gmail account to register. Registration is $25.

Community meeting and training discussing constitutional rights when interacting with ICE planned by N.J. Alliance for Immigrant Justice and ICC on Sep. 24 in Newark. It will discuss updates on the Iberia development, the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission’s proposed power plant in Ironbound, and the potential opening of Delaney Hall, a Newark jail that closed in 2017. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at St. Stephan’s Church. Attendees can also join virtually. Registration is required.

Newark Liberty International Airport Job Fair planned for Sep. 24 in Newark. The job fair is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Arrivals Area in Terminal A. There will be more than 400 positions available for full-time and part-time work. Interested candidates must bring multiple copies of their resume and complete a mobile check-in. Business attire is recommended.

Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission board will vote Sep. 19 on a permit application to construct a fourth fossil fuel plant in Newark’s Ironbound neighborhood. Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, Jr. and Ironbound Community Corporation previously met with PVSC members to find an alternative plan to the power plant, but could not reach a compromise, according to DiVincenzo. Community organizations and political leaders are urging the PVSC to withdraw its permit application. The PVSC meeting is open to the public and scheduled virtually for Sep. 19 at 12 p.m.
