Free family game night planned by Maplewood library on Aug. 19 in the Hilton Branch. The drop-in event is from 6-7:45 p.m. for families with children ages 5+.

Free performance from percussionist Glenn Weber planned by West Orange library on Aug. 17. Weber will perform from 2-3 p.m. Registration is required.

Latin Fest planned by Newark on Aug. 18. The festival is from 12-10 p.m. on Bloomfield Avenue from Lake Street to Clifton Avenue. There will be performances from Ivy Queen and Fernando Villalona.

Open house event for families and students planned by Essex County on Aug. 17. The first 700 people in attendance will receive free food and school supplies from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Essex County One Stop Career Center parking lot, 50 S. Clinton St. There will also be haircuts, entertainment, music, and activities. Registration is required.

NJ Transit trains and buses will be free from Aug. 26 to Sep. 2 as an appreciation gesture to customers who endured a summer of service delays and disruptions, Gov. Phil Murphy said. Monthly pass holders who bought an August pass will automatically receive a 25% discount on their September pass purchase. Tickets are available on the NJ Transit app, ticket vending machines, or ticket windows.
