REGIONAL NEWS

New Jersey residents can share their experiences with medical debt online through N.J. Citizen Action to advocate for expanded legislative debt protections. A recently passed state law protects 1.5 million residents’ credit scores from being impacted by medical debt, but it doesn’t cover all medical credit card debt. Expanded protections would close loopholes, exclude medical debt from employment and housing screenings, and regulate deferred interest, credit card accounts, and service charges.
