Free trivia night for families planned by N.J. Citizen Action on Aug. 9 in Newark. There will be food, games, and prizes from 5:30-7 p.m. at Newark Express. All participants are entered for a chance to win a free tablet. Prizes include gift cards to Trader Joe’s, Home Depot, and Stew Leonard’s. Registration is required.

Newark Ironbound residents can apply for Ironbound Early Learning Center’s head start program for ages 0-5. Students participate in curriculum activities, health and developmental screenings, and receive meals. Interested families must book an in-person appointment to apply by phone. Newark-area residents can sign an online petition urging Newark City Council to block the construction of a Chick-fil-A at 2-28 Broadway. La Casa de Don Pedro, which has locations at 23 and 39 Broadway, launched the petition over community concerns of increased traffic, Chick-fil-A’s support for anti-LGBTQ+ groups, and the planning board’s decision to approve the site despite public opposition.

New Jersey residents ages 18+ can receive free training to become a certified community health worker. Students must apply to attend the Colette Lamothe-Galette Community Health Worker Institute, a state program that comprises of classroom instruction and hands-on job training. Community health workers help residents secure care resources, support, and understand health risks and prevention. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED to enroll. Preregister online.

Parents of disabled children in N.J. can share their experiences with public school support in a statewide survey. The survey will evaluate parent involvement in their student’s individualized education program (IEP). A supplemental survey will focus on bus safety. Results will inform N.J.’s annual performance report. Surveys are available by email or mail.
