The pedestrian death rate in Essex County between 2017 and 2021 was 46 percent of all fatal car crashes, according to a study by Laborde Earles Injury Lawyers. According to data National Highway Traffic Safety Administration there were 229 fatal car crashes total with 106 pedestrian deaths during the five year period. Overall Essex County ranked had the seventh highest rate of pedestrian death across the country.
