New Jersey’s 10th congressional district special primary election is Jul. 16 for voters in parts of Hudson, Union, and Essex Counties. Typical polling locations will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the 10th District, which includes East Orange, Irvington, Montclair, Newark, Orange, and West Orange. Mail-in ballots are accepted until 8 p.m. The Jersey Bee partnered with NJ Spotlight News in producing three articles explaining what voters need to know about the 2024 special election and its candidates.

Three labor laws surrounding employment protection, overtime pay expansion, and increased wages went into effect in N.J. on Jul. 1. The bills establish protections for domestic workers, mandates employers to pay overtime to workers who earn less than $43,888 per year, and increases the minimum pay for municipal public works contracts from $16,263 to $19,375. A fourth bill requiring all contractors and subcontractors to submit certified payroll records to the labor department’s N.J. Wage Hub goes into effect Aug. 15.
