Independence Day celebration planned by Maplewood on Jul. 4. There will be a 5K race, bike parade, relays for children, ice cream eating contest, and pet parade from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fireworks scheduled for 9 p.m.

Free family game night planned by Maplewood library on Jul. 8 in the Hilton Branch. The weekly drop-in event is from 6-7:30 p.m. for families with children ages 5+.

Free downtown Newark walking tour for all ages planned by Have You Met Newark on Jul. 8. The tour is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Robert Treat Hotel, 50 Park Pl. It will include early Newark history, industrial history, art and cultural impacts.
