Special primary election candidate forum planned by NAACP on Jul. 1 in Newark. Twelve candidates running for the 10th congressional district will answer questions about their candidacy from 6-8 p.m. at NJIT. The special primary election is Jul. 16. Registration is available online.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka to host monthly “Men’s Meeting” on Jun. 28. Newark men will discuss civic engagement, small business and government, and property development at 6 p.m. at Central High School.

Newark public schools appointed Yolonda Severe to deputy superintendent and Paul Brubaker to communications director during last week’s meeting. Additional executive-level appointments include: Jose Fuentes to school business administrator; Rosa Branco to assistant superintendent of teaching and learning; and Sylvia Esteves to assistant superintendent of the North Ward school leadership team.

SNAP EBT recipients can purchase food using their program card at more than 20 participating farmers markets and farm stands in N.J. Patrons should inform a market manager or volunteer that they are using a SNAP EBT card and the total amount of money they would like to spend in exchange for tokens, cards, or tickets. Those vouchers can be used to purchase food directly from vendors. A list of N.J. farmers markets that accept SNAP is available online.
