Montclair town council voted to settle a whistleblower lawsuit for $1.25 million

Montclair town council recently voted to settle a whistleblower lawsuit filed by Padmaja Rao, the town’s chief financial officer, for a total of $1.25 million. Rao filed a complaint in 2022 alleging retaliation from the township and former town manager Timothy Stafford after exposing members of the town council wrongfully received full-time health benefits. According to the agreement, Rao will receive $250,000 from the insurance of the town and her legal team will receive the remaining $1 million. Rao will maintain her position as the town’s CFO.
