Newark residents have been informed that lead components have been discovered in more residential water lines. In an announcement from the State Department of Environmental Protection, inspectors found lead components in 12 water service lines which were meant to have been replaced from 2019 onwards. These discoveries follow a February announcement that lead components were found in three other homes. While state officials do not believe that this represents a citywide risk, they are cautioning residents as inspections are still ongoing. Community members raised concerns about lacking transparency, including which areas are affected, as well as who is responsible for the partial replacement of the lead lines.
