Regional news

New Jersey is contesting the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s proposed $15 per car congestion-pricing toll for vehicles entering Manhattan’s business district in federal court. N.J. officials argue that the plan will increase traffic in local neighborhoods, exacerbate air pollution, and does not include revenue sharing plans with N.J. Transit agencies. The state’s lawyers are asking for an environmental impact assessment to be ordered. If not overturned by the court, the MTA’s congestion pricing initiative will start in June.
