New Jersey State Superior Court is seating more judges to fill vacancies that caused severe case backlogs and resulted in a freeze on civil and matrimonial trials in several counties. Chief Justice Stuart Rabner lifted the trial moratorium for Hunterdon, Somerset, and Warren counties due to the placement of four new judges. The state, which was previously short of 67 judges in March 2023, has reduced the number of judicial vacancies to 48, with hopes to decrease to 25 and 30 vacancies.
