New Jersey’s “Pass the Trash” law, aimed at preventing teachers accused of sexual misconduct from finding jobs in other districts, is being ignored by some school districts, a report from the State Commission of Investigation found. The law, introduced in 2018, was designed to obligate educators with allegations of sexual misconduct or child abuse to disclose this when applying for new jobs and requires hiring districts to ask for such records. The report found failures in this disclosure process at all levels. The report is available in full online.
