South Orange’s board of trustees unanimously voted to change the government’s official name from “Township of South Orange Village” back to its original 1869 title, “South Orange Village.” The “Township of South Orange Village” title established in 1970 increased eligibility for federal funding opportunities, a rule that is no longer limited to townships. As a result, Village President Sheena Collum will now be referred to as Mayor Collum, trustees will become council members, and the village treasurer will be identified as the chief financial officer.
