East Orange library to host “Youth Celebrate Ramadan and Eid” for families on Mar. 11 in the Main Branch. Participants will create Ramadan crafts from 4-5 p.m. Add to 📅.

The deadline to submit nominating petitions is approaching for local municipal offices. The Jersey Bee created a guide for Essex County candidates to understand the process of getting on the ballot. Human Needs Food Pantry plans a weekend donation day on Mar. 9 in Montclair. Donations are accepted on the second Saturday of each month at 9 Label St. Add to 📅.

CFBNJ plans application assistance event for New Jersey SNAP, a food assistance program for low-income families, Mar. 9 in Newark. CFBNJ members will help eligible families and individuals with their application from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Ebenezer Food Pantry, 1152 South Orange Ave. in Newark. Applicants must have social security numbers, birthdates, and monthly income of all household members. Online appointments are available. Add to 📅.
The Community Food Bank of New Jersey
Essex County College and Caldwell University have partnered for a five-year student transfer agreement. The partnership allows Essex County College students earning an associate degree in arts or science to transfer to Caldwell University with junior status, starting on May 1. It also provides up to $30,000 in scholarship money for the transferring students.

Essex County Environmental Center is accepting spring and summer camp enrollment for ages 6-10 in Roseland. Participants will explore natural environments at the center during the spring camp from Apr. 2 to Apr. 4. A wilderness skills summer camp is from Jul. 8 to Jul. 12 for grades 5-8 and a nature explorers summer camp is from Jul. 8 to Jul. 19 for grades pre-K and Kindergarten. Tickets purchased online.

Essex County residents can receive horticultural advice from a Rutgers Master Gardeners volunteer-led helpline. Topics include lawn care, pest control, composting, pruning, and flower and vegetable gardening. The service is available weekdays and by email.

Daylight Saving Time starts on Mar. 10 in 2024. New Jersey residents should set their clocks forward one hour the night before.

Elderly and disabled residents in N.J. are eligible for property tax or mobile home site fee reimbursement under the Senior Freeze Program. Applicants must meet certain requirements, including an income limit, for each year from their base year to their application year. Applications for 2023 began mailing out on Feb. 12, with an application deadline of Oct. 31. Payments for successful applicants are anticipated to begin in July.
