Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka recently announced his intention to run for governor in 2025. Baraka, who was elected South Ward councilman in 2010 and won the mayoral election in 2014, aims to become N.J.’s first Black governor. Several other Democratic candidates, include Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop and former state Senate President Steve Sweeney, along with Republican state Sen. Jon Bramnick have also announced their gubernatorial bids.
