Columbia High School Spectrum Club and New Jersey Safe Schools Coalition to host “Community Candle Light Vigil in Honor of Nex Benedict” on Feb. 24 in Maplewood. Benedict, a non-binary teenager who died on Feb. 8 after an altercation during the school day on Feb. 7. The vigil is designed to lift up in support of trans, non-binary and LGBTQ+ students everywhere and call attention to hate speech and bullying. New Jersey Turnpike Authority to host “Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension Project Public Hearing” on Feb. 27 in Newark. The event, scheduled from 6-9 p.m. at East Side High School in Newark. The hearing will discuss will discuss a proposed construction project on the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension of the Turnpike. The proposed plan would rebuild an 8.1-mile section of the highway between Newark, Jersey City and Bayonne that leads to the Holland Tunnel and expand the highway and and replace 29 bridges.
