Glen Ridge is hiring crossing guards for the 2023-2024 school year. Applications can be picked up at the Glen Ridge police building. Crossing guards will be expected to work two to three posts per day with each post lasting about an hour and a half.

Glen Ridge library to host a “Young Adult Cookie Decorating” event on Feb. 6 for student in grades 6+. The event begins at 3:15 p.m. and registration is required. Add to 📅.

Watchung Booksellers to host a free author talk with Jennifer Belle on Feb. 7. Belle will discuss “Swanna in Love” with Marcy Dermansky at 7 p.m. at 44 Fairfield St. in Montclair. Add to 📅.

High school seniors in Bloomfield, Belleville, and Glen Ridge are eligible for three scholarship awards from the Suburban Essex Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Students must submit a 500-word essay, demonstrate financial need, show intent to pursue a business-focused career, and participate in extracurricular or community activities. Lakeland Bank and N.J. Citizen Action to host a free, virtual “First-Time Homebuyer Seminar” on Feb. 6. The event, scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., will provide information on the home buying process, affordable mortgage programs, fair housing, and avoiding predatory lending. New Jersey is expanding the eligibility criteria for students to receive free school breakfast and lunch, potentially reaching an additional 60,000 children. Under newly-signed legislation, both public and private schools participating in federal meal programs must provide government-sponsored meals to families earning up to $67,200 per year, starting in the 2024-25 academic year. This is a marked increase from the current limit of $59,700 and includes private school students for the first time.
