Newark library plans “Purgatory Citizenship: Reentry, Race, and Abolition” virtual book talk with author Calvin John Smiley on Jan. 18. Smiley’s book covers more than three years of research at a Newark reentry center and the experiences of Newark locals. Preregistration is required. Add to 📅.

RWJ Barnabas Health plans 2024 “Managing Your Child’s Behavior” virtual workshop for parents and caregivers starting Jan. 17. The seven-part course held on Wednesdays from 7-8 p.m. and is designed for parents and caregivers of children ages 2-10. Psychologist Shoshana Isenberg will cover misbehavior, sibling conflicts, parental stress and self-care during the program. Advanced registration and a $99 fee are required. Add to 📅.

RWJ Barnabas Health plans a free virtual support group for pregnant people and new parents experiencing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders starting Jan. 17. Eligible Essex County college students can apply to Ursula’s Promise Memorial Scholarship Fund for 2024-2025. Scholarship recipients can be awarded up to $1,500 and must be enrolled in Rutgers-Newark’s nursing program, Essex County College’s Newark campus, Bloomfield College or Montclair State University. Applications are accepted from Jan. 15 to May 1.
