Orange health department plan 2023 “Health Insurance Sign-up Event” Dec. 4 at Orange Public Library. Staff will be at Orange library to help residents with health insurance enrollment from 2:30-5 p.m.
City of Orange Township

Oakwood Avenue Community School plans 2023 student awards ceremony on Dec. 6. Awards will be given inside the auditorium from 9-10 a.m. for grades K-3 and from 10-11 a.m. for grades 4-7.
Orange Public Schools

Oakwood Avenue Community School to host “Family Literacy Night” on Dec. 6. The event is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. inside the school’s multi-purpose room. Students are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal and blanket. There will be hot chocolate, guest readers, and a book fair. Add to 📅.

South Orange Downtown plans its final 2023 “Downtown on Display” at Elitist Coffee on Dec. 2. The after-dark event is from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. and will feature cocktails, dancing, and live music. This event is 21+ with a $10 entry fee and cash bar. Add to 📅.

Montclair’s East Side Mags plans book signing event with Jesse Hubbard Dec. 2. The event is from 2 to 5 p.m. at 491 Bloomfield Ave. Attendees can meet Hubbard and have a copy of “Punk Rock & Cocktails Volume 2” signed.

West Orange plans 2023 tree lighting ceremony Dec. 2. The event starts at 4:30 p.m. at Town Hall, 66 Main St. There will be live music, a train ride, petting zoo, free Christmas ornament give-away, photos with Santa, and a Santa mailbox. Add to 📅.

Downtown West Orange plans 2023 holiday events Dec. 2. There will be a “Holiday Character Breakfast” from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Washington School cafeteria. A vendor marketplace, guided tours of historic downtown, free photos with Santa, and a stuffed animal workshop are planned from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A tree lighting ceremony at 4:30 p.m. at town hall will follow. Essex County Turtle Back Zoo to host 2023 “Holiday Lights” event Dec. 1-3. Admission is by donation. The event includes a carousel ride, face painting, farm, reptile house, photo with Santa, and gift shop for families from 5-9 p.m. Donations of non-perishable food, new toys or gently-used winter coats are recommended. New Jersey is moving forward with its plans to grow offshore wind production, despite the recent loss of two major wind farm projects due to their developer, Orsted, canceling its contract. The state board of public utilities voted Nov. 17 to seek bids for a transmission facility that would allow for the connection of multiple offshore wind projects to the onshore electrical grid.

New Jersey residents can expect increase in average temperatures, more heavy rain and hotter days as average global temperatures predicted to surpass 1.5°C by 2030. Day- and night-time average temperatures could increase by as much as four degrees, increasing the number of days above 95°F by up to two weeks and making the heaviest rainstorms drop up to 30 percent more rain. World leaders are meeting this month for the 28th annual COP climate change negotiations conference in ongoing effort to coordinate a worldwide response to the climate crisis.
