Newark schools district plans new approaches to teaching phonics, writing techniques, and reading skills to improve student performance. A recent spring state exam showed most Newark students scored lower in the English language arts section than they had pre-pandemic. Teachers will be trained to implement the new teaching plan and monitor academic progress, according to district officials.
