Newark’s A’Dorian Murray-Thomas elected to Essex County Board of Commissioners in 2023 general election. Murray-Thomas will represent District 2, including Newark’s South Ward, parts of Newark’s Central Ward, Irvington and Maplewood. Murray will resign from her position on the Newark school board and be sworn in as commissioner in January 2024.

Newark’s AHS seeks an adoptive family for Gracie, a one-year-old litter-trained foster cat. Adoption applications accepted online.
Newark Associated Humane Shelters

Newark’s Central Planning Board approved N.J. Performing Arts Center’s plan to construct a three-story arts education and community center across the street from its main building on Center St. at it Oct. 30 meeting. NJPAC’s attorney says construction will start in the first half of 2024 and the center will open by the end of 2025.

Newark library to offer a virtual, beginner-level negotiations skills course through LinkedIn Learning. Management trainer Chris Croft will teach the program. This event is available to library cardholders and participants will earn a certificate at the end of the course.

Bloomfield animal shelter is at capacity of its large-breed dogs and seeks adoptive families for dogs Sniper, Brie, Muffin, Biggie, and Venus. Adoption fees will be waived. Applications accepted online.

N.J. Arts Council is accepting applications for its 2025 “Folk and Traditional Arts Project” grant. Interested applicants can attend a free session to learn more about the application process Nov. 21. This grant program is designed for mid-career artists and the deadline to apply is Dec. 12 at 12 p.m.
