South Orange recreation to celebrate Meadowland Park Nov. 18. The event will be held at Flood’s Hill from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m and include music and fireworks. Add to 📅.

Out Montclair, Newark LGBTQ Center, and Trans Affirming Alliance plans “Transcendence: Honoring and Celebrating Trans Lives” Nov. 20. This event will be run from 6-8 p.m. at NJPAC Arts Education Center to commemorate Trans Day of Remembrance. A candlelight vigil for Ashley Moore, a Black trans woman who died in Newark, will follow from 8-8:30 p.m. Advanced ticket purchase is required. Add to 📅.

New Jersey will no longer require political candidates to swear an oath including the word “God” to be able to run for elected office. The new wording will allow people with no religious affiliation who objected to the use of the term to run for office, according to the Freedom From Religion Foundation, a secular advocacy group that brought a lawsuit prompting the change.
