Local news
Newark Teachers Union filed a lawsuit after the district denied a public records request releasing a review of cultural, religious, and racial dynamics at city’s School of Global Studies. Newark NAACP and other community members have previously demanded the release of the full report, which was commissioned after students spoke publicly in 2022 about racial harassment on campus. Some report recommendations included assessing effects of “anti-Blackness” on the school system and fostering conversations about racial issues. The district alleges the documents are draft or advisory and exempt from public record requests.
