Applications are open for eligible Orange and West Orange residents to receive up to $15K for home improvement. 2023-2024 Housing and Neighborhood Development Services (HANDS) grants are available for the repair or replacement of bathrooms, kitchens, windows, doors, roofs, porches, awnings, gutters, and other qualifying home projects in certain neighborhoods. Downtown West Orange Alliance plans “Trick or Treat” event on Oct. 28. The event will be from 1-5 p.m. starting at 289 Main St. Participating businesses will have black and orange balloons outside their storefronts. The event will also include games and music. Add to 📅.

Come Unity, an Essex County-based artist and entrepreneur collective, plans housing rights conference on Oct. 28 at Rutgers Law School in Newark. The conference will include workshops and information housing resources. Preregistration is required. Add to 📅.

East Side Mags plans 2023 “Montclair Zombie Walk” on Oct. 28 starting at 2 p.m. at East Side Mags. The event includes complimentary zombie makeup before the zombie walk, costume contest, and after-parties at area restaurants. Add to 📅.

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Montclair plans to host “Brazen Cabaret,” a fundraising performance for intimate partner violence relief. Funds raised will support Montclair-based Start Out Fresh Intervention Advocates, an organization that provides housing and services to those escaping domestic and intimate partner violence.
