Montclair is in N.J.’s 27th legislative district, where state senate and assembly seats are up for election in 2023. In-person early voting for the 2023 general election will be held from Oct. 28 to Nov. 5. Essex County residents can access their district’s ballot at any of the county’s 10 early voting locations. Early voting centers will be located in Bloomfield, East Orange, Fairfield, Irvington, Verona, West Orange, and Newark. Add to 📅.

Montclair council appointed Roger Terry as town councilor-at-large Oct. 18 in a vote of 4-2. Terry is president of the Montclair NAACP and former at-large councilor and deputy police chief of Montclair. He replaces Peter Yacobellis, who resigned Oct. 12.

The Montclair Fund for Educational Excellence plans a free workshop for parents or caregivers of elementary age children in Montclair public schools. The event will be Oct. 26 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Wally Choice Community Center. The workshop will be led by Dr. Imad Zaheer and focus on mindful and compassionate parenting. Belleville plans “Breast Cancer Awareness Month Fundraiser” at Michael’s Roscommon House in Belleville on Oct. 26. Special guest bartenders Mayor Michael Melham, Deputy Mayor Vincent Cozzarelli, and Councilman Tommy Graziano will be filling orders. Eligible New Jersey residents can apply for the state’s Senior Freeze Property Tax Reimbursement. The program reimburses increases in property taxes or mobile home park site fees for eligible senior citizens age 65 or older and people with disabilities. The filing deadline is Oct. 31. Add to 📅.
